Washington County Circuit Court Overview
Missouri's main trial court is the Circuit Court. In Washington County, the Circuit Court sits within the 24th Judicial Circuit and includes circuit, associate circuit, probate, juvenile, family, criminal, civil, traffic, small-claims, and other assigned divisions or proceedings. The local Circuit Clerk supports the Circuit Judge, Associate Circuit Judge, and visiting judges of the circuit while maintaining court proceedings electronically.
Washington County is grouped with St. Francois, Madison, and Ste. Genevieve counties in the 24th Judicial Circuit. Case.net is the public case-search path for state court files. Federal court records use separate federal systems, so a federal civil, criminal, or bankruptcy matter will not be found by treating the Washington County Circuit Court as the filing court.
Washington County Circuit Court Offices
Washington County has a compact court and county-office area in downtown Potosi. The main courthouse address is 102 North Missouri Street. The Circuit Clerk is in the Court Annex at 104 North Missouri Street, while the Juvenile Office is at 106 North Missouri Street. These offices are close together, but they do not all hold the same records.

Washington County Court Hierarchy
The Circuit Court handles general trial-court jurisdiction. Associate Circuit Court handles misdemeanor crimes, traffic matters, small claims, probate, preliminary felony hearings, and other limited civil or family matters assigned by Missouri procedure. Municipal courts handle municipal ordinance and municipal traffic matters. The Prosecuting Attorney's office states that it does not prosecute municipal tickets or infractions, which is a key split for traffic and warrant records.

Washington County Case Flow
A Washington County case moves through different offices depending on the matter. A state criminal case often begins with a law-enforcement referral to the Prosecuting Attorney, then a charge is filed and the case appears in court records. A civil case starts with a petition or claim filed through the clerk. Probate starts in the Probate Division of the Circuit Court, and juvenile matters route through the Juvenile Office under confidentiality rules.

Research snippets from the official PDF show Washington County circuit terms beginning on the first Monday in January and July. Law-day schedules are maintained and posted in the Clerk's office, so hearing calendars should be confirmed with the Circuit Clerk or through Case.net rather than assumed from a static page.
Note: Local rules set court procedure, but an individual hearing date is controlled by the docket entry, order, or notice in that case.
Federal Court Separate Jurisdiction
Washington County is in the Eastern District of Missouri for federal court purposes. The federal district court is separate from Washington County Circuit Court. Federal criminal cases, federal-question civil cases, diversity cases, civil rights matters, cases removed to federal court, and federal bankruptcy records use federal court systems. PACER and CM/ECF are the federal access tools, while Case.net is the Missouri state court access tool.

The federal county list helps confirm that Washington County belongs to the Eastern District, but it does not turn a local Circuit Court case into a federal case.

Federal PACER and CM ECF
PACER is the federal public access system for docket sheets, reports, and documents. CM/ECF is the federal judiciary's electronic case management and filing system. The Eastern District PACER page explains that PACER accounts are free to obtain, but fees are charged when viewing reports, docket sheets, and documents. Those federal fees and systems are separate from Missouri Case.net and Washington County Circuit Clerk copy requests.

Bankruptcy Court Is Separate
Bankruptcy cases for Washington County residents are handled by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Missouri, not by the Washington County Circuit Court. The bankruptcy court lists office hours, a Clerk's Office phone number, a CM/ECF help desk, and McVCIS case information. Bankruptcy may affect state-court collection or judgment activity, but the bankruptcy case file remains federal.

Access Washington County Cases
For state court records, start with Case.net and narrow to Washington County or the 24th Judicial Circuit. Use a case number when available. If a document is not visible remotely, ask the Circuit Clerk whether it is available through a courthouse terminal, by copy request, or only to parties and attorneys. For municipal tickets, identify the issuing city court because those matters may not be prosecuted by the Washington County Prosecuting Attorney.
